45 Massacred in Door-to-Door Raids by Federal Forces–Merawi

45 massacred in Door-to-door Raids by federal forces --Merawi

This Tuesday, February 20, 2024, DMV residents are being urged to stand with the Amhara community to bring attention to the massacre of innocent civilians, which took place on January 29, 2024, in the town of Merawi. Merawi is a town located in Gojam, Amhara.

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) reported that the federal security forces killed at least 45 civilians. There are disturbing reports and footage that confirm civilians have been brutally murdered and left to die on the streets. This is on the heels of the extended state of emergency in the Amhara region announced by P.M. Abiye Ahmed. The Ethiopian Federal Army has been dropping drones on many towns throughout the Amhara region for the past several months since the state of emergency was first issued and hasn’t received enough backlash for the destruction and killings. The demonstration is to garner much-needed exposure from international media outlets.

To bring exposure to this crisis the demonstration will be held in front of the CNN D.C. Bureau to invoke attention from the Inside Politics Studios at 10 am SHARP followed by a walk to the second location, National Public Radio–NPR. The organizers of the demonstration include the DC Joint Task Force, Balderas, Moged Amhara, WAA, and other Amhara organizations.
